YOU ASK, WHY HIRE A DESIGNER?

You ask, why hire a designer?  Well, that’s actually a fairly easy one to answer - In short because you probably need one.  If you’ve gotten this far - and your on this page, there is a fair chance this has crossed your mind before.  In this post, I’m going to share the in’s and out’s to hiring a great interior designer, and why this is such a valuable tool to have when you are considering a remodel, a room makeover, new construction, or selling your home.

  • #1 - Design Eye: Well, first and foremost - we have an incredible eye for design.  Style is at the forefront of our thinking and how we approach our day to day.  Do you ever look at a magazine, or show, or even someone else’s house and think, holy guacamole - that is perfect!

  • #2 - Stellar Communication: There are SO many talented designers out there that will give you the aesthetic you’re going for, but if you’re always having to chase them down to get a response - it’s just very… well… unprofessional! It’s so important to find someone who will give you weekly updates on the status of your project. Plus, you are kept abreast of the ordering process, when things arrive, pieces you are waiting on, and where you stand in the design process.

  • #3 - Project Management: Often, when you think of interior design, you think of a space being beautiful! But, you should definitely take into consideration the logistics! So much goes into the research, procurement, shipping, receiving, inspection, storage, and installation. Also, ensure you are hiring someone that gives you a clearly defined process. It shows your designer knows exactly what they are doing and it gives you peace of mind that you’re in great hands.

  • #4 - Contractor Meetings: If applicable, we meet with your General Contractor to make sure our vision gets carried out exactly how we designed it. This includes site visits with plumbers, electricians, stone yard visits, tile workers, cabinetry showrooms, etc. We also help to facilitate communication, again - so important.

  • #5 - Flat Rate Design Fee: Many of you may ask, what exactly is a design fee?! (Or in some cases designers will charge hourly - we will come back to that in a second). Well - it’s for a multitude of things that seem obvious, like designing the perfect room for you - but, it’s also all the unseen logistics that go into making your space beautiful. See bullet point #3 and #4 again. Plus, it’s ALL of our time to pull your room together ie. consultation, design (floorplans, elevations, renderings, a boat load of research to find the perfect sofa, meeting with your contractor, procurement, installation day, etc.). I don’t charge hourly because it starts to feel uncomfortable - tracking every minute I work on your project, only for you to get a surprise bill at the end. I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t want to charge like one. You know from the very beginning how much my cost will be for your space - full transparency.

  • #6 - Trade Accounts: Many of you are probably like, what the heck is this?! A “trade” vendor is also known as the manufacturer. Therefore, I’m going to the original source to purchase your furniture, lighting, and accessories. That means we eliminate the middle man, and get much better pricing. Often times part of those savings get passed onto you, saving you $$$ big bucks! And in many ways - your savings help cover the Flat Rate Fee for some of the work on the project.

  • #7 - You Click: Last but not least, sometimes a designer will resonate with you.  Maybe it’s their portfolio… but honestly, maybe it’s also in how you two click or communicate.  You want someone who will be a great listener, who understands what you need - and the importance behind that special piece. But eventually your designer begins to learn all the nuances of your life… almost like a certified BFF.

This is all while you just sit back and relax!

Finally, at the end of the day, you want to know you are in good hands, that you are being heard, and that your vision is brought to life.  That’s what we are here for.  Let us help you and your family live the best life by making your home work for you, function for you, and be gorgeous all the same.
